Sunday April 15th brought us dry weather at Aldershot Raceway - but breezy!! We had a full pit area for the event and the track looked fast during practice. Headlining the programme were the 2.0 Hot Rods and Ministox competing in their Southern Championships. In support we had the youngsters in their Ninja Karts and the Bangers in the second round of their track championship sponsored by Inchcape Ford of Bracknell.
Ninja Karts (2/3 cars)
Heat One
7 Josh Mackey, 980, 331, 216, 194, 421, 442, 177, 409, 136.
The Ninja Karts got the racing started with a fine win for Josh Mackey.
Heat Two (2/3 cars)
7 Josh Mackey, 73, 532, 28, 442, 20, 409, 331, 842, 421.
Josh makes it two for two, could he make it a hat trick in the final?
Heat Three (2/3 cars)
216 George Baker, 73, 532, 194, 177, 28, 614, 136, 285, 20.
The dust on the pit bend caused a couple of incidents but it was 216 George Baker who came through for victory!
Final
194 Abbie Anscombe, 20 Archie Thurlow, 216 George Baker, 409, 177, 532, 136, 42, 842, 614.
Two red flag incidents on the first lap of the race meant a slightly depleted field for the third attempt. Abbie Anscombe took a very popular flag to flag victory from Archie Thurlow by less than a kart length! 216 George Baker finished in third spot.
2.0 Hot Rods
Heat One (Drawn Grid)
31 Charlie Jowers, 72, 565, 65, 87, 43, 7, 306, 75, 39.
A cracking race where pole sitter Charlie Jowers kept a tight line to take the win. A train of cars formed behind him but no-one was willing to take to the outside line. Mark Willis was docked for contact on Jowers as the 31 machine crossed the line on the infield side of the marker tyre!
Heat Two (Reverse Grid)
30 Martin Codling, 75, 306, 304, 303, 65, 24, 39, 50, 7.
Martin Codling takes a fine win as several race stoppages put paid to the hopes of several drivers including 11 Alex Crane, 43 Paul Wright and 87 Jason Busby. A number of drivers fell foul of the steward for contact.
The Southern Championship saw 65 Mark Willis on pole with 75 Chris Crane on his outside. Row 2 consists of World Champion 306 Will Reed and 72 Gary Goodswen. The two heat winners lined up on row 3 in the form of 30 Martin Codling and 31 Charlie Jowers.
Southern Championship Final
65 Mark Willis, 306 Will Reed, 304 Danny Fiske, 7, 565, 72, 30, 303, 24, 11.
A well earned win for Mark Willis who took full advantage of his pole position start as he maintained a safe gap back to Will Reed who just couldn't catch the 65 car. Reed came under a lot of pressure from Chris Crane but the 75 car broke down in the latter stages - allowing 304 Danny Fiske to take thid place. A great days hot rod racing.
Bangers - Track Championship Round Two (Sponsored by Inchcape Ford of Bracknell)
Heat One
510 Mark Longhurst, 469, 486, 580, 558, 25, 470, 197, 706, 144.
Following a pile up in the early stages, Mark Longhurst takes the win.
Heat Two
197 Peter Dodge, 469, 766, 486, 468, 414, NOF.
Peter Dodge takes heat two despite the best efforts of 469 Paul Quinnell who took himself out of the reckoning when challenging for the lead, Paul managed to collect the car to finish second.
Final
469 Paul Quinnell, 104 Shane Bird, 167 Jimmy Morris, 580, 535, 390, 227, 486, 144, NOF.
A lively day's banger racing was brought to an end with a victory for Paul Quinnell. The race was halted due to a driver requiring assistance and we wish him well.
Ministox
Heat One
121 Marcus Skeels, 523, 143, 136, 198, 242, 118, 115, 277, 160.
Marcus Skeels takes a fine win in the first race for the Ministox.
Heat Two
121 Marcus Skeels, 277, 523, 986, 143, 364, 198, 242, 115, 155.
Another entertaining race but the same winner as Marcus Skeels makes it a double. Will the grid draw for the Southern Championship give Skeels a chance of making it a championship winning hat trick?
Southern Championship Final
143 Danny Hansford, 155 Sid Madgwick, 136 Ryan Polley, 523, 242, 115, 277, 986, 198, 118.
A cracking final which saw some great action from the youngsters. 143 Danny Hansford took the Southern Championship in a race which saw a major clash between 121 Skeels and 198 Osborne.
