Foxhall Stadium Meeting Preview - 2nd October 2010 - Added 29/9/2010

This weekend sees the fourth World Final of the year contested at Foxhall Raceway as the Stock Rods roll into town to see who carries the coveted gold roof for the next 12 months. 36 cars will take part and drivers and race fans will travel from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland. The meeting has the usual 6.45 start time.

Current Champion Stuart Fox from the Midlands defends his title in his Peugeot 106, which is quite a unique car in a formula once again dominated by the Vauxhall Nova and Corsa. Fox has had a consistent if unspectacular year as World Champion and has to be considered among the favourites to defend his title on the wide open Foxhall oval. If we look at other possible winners the list seems almost endless with a strong contingent from Scotland where Stock Rod racing is a very strong class. David Philp or the Lattka brothers Jonathan and Tony from Falkirk will be chasing hard and those in the know would not bet against either of these three taking the silverware back up the A1. John O’Donovan and Gary Butler are the top men from Tipperary Raceway and are representing the Republic of Ireland and Glenn Saunders and Adam Daniel make the trip up from the South West to try and take the honours home to the Autospeed promotion in Cornwall. All Rod classes are strong in Northern Ireland as those who follow National Hot Rod Racing will know for certain, Ulster based drivers have always been regarded as possible winners especially at Ipswich and a strong entry this year sees the trio of Micky McFall, Victor McAfee and Raymond Harper, these three may not be big names to the English fans but they are regular winners back home and will be worth keeping an eye on come the big race. So what about the title staying in England? One name springs to mind above the rest, Stuart Smyth, a popular diver who has been on top his game for a long time and has won every title in the sport over the years....except the World Championship, 2010 could be his year. Keen to see the title stay in England will be Kim Carter and the ever present Andy Sturt and both of these would be on the list for a trophy, and on their day it could easily be the big one! If we look for a local winner from East Anglia hopes are on Shaun Taylor from Leiston and Manningtree based Steve Abbott with Michael “Rusty”Maddon, a regular winner at Great Yarmouth raceway upholding the honours for Norfolk.

Local Pride is at stake at Foxhall as its the big local Banger Teams Derby....Ipswich V Norwich, the Ipswich cars in blue and white with the Norwich cars in yellow and green. Tradition has it that the Ipswich team have been the victors with this over the years and they have already won the first leg at Great Yarmouth earlier in the summer. Ipswich have put together a very strong team for this weekend with some of the big names on the Ipswich Banger scene, names like Ben Warner, Chris Bailey, Michael Lane, and Jamie Hadley, now add into the mix the racecraft of drivers like Michael Mills and Steen Rozier along with the flying antics of Joe Palmer and the Ipswich team once again looks like the favourite. The Norwich challenge does look strong as they try to overturn their deficit, and we need to allow for the fact that the Yarmouth regulars are fresh from a very hectic Summer season at the Norfolk track. Yarmouth regulars Andy Leonard, Kieran Cannell, and Steve Sipka are out for revenge. The likeable Barry Beevor is racing and he has a reputation for racing something a little different, ex Stock Car star Titch Mancini is signed up for the team to give some hard hitting action and Nigel Walker will be determined to uphold some local honours for the Norfolk track. The girls are in on the action as well with Carol Reynolds racing for her home city, and if you thought Banger racing was just for tough guys just keep an eye on Carol as she mixes it with the best of them. Big hopes for a win for the yellow and green cars will be from Michael Allard and Danny Sutton who bring a wealth of racing experience, and wins with them.
