The biggest night of the year for the National Bangers was at Foxhall Stadium on Saturday and it was Ashford star 294 Lee Hughes who went home with the most coveted title in Banger racing!

The weather stayed kind to us despite the early forecasts, and almost 200 National Bangers descended on Ipswich. The usual weird and wonderful paint jobs with some unusual cars as well, including the first Chrysler 300C to be raced as a banger thanks to Nicky Bishop! We unfortunately suffered a few power problems during the evening for which we would like to apologise, and thank everyone for their understanding and patience!

As usual the last chance races were fiercely contested with 67 Rickie Beasley, 86 Alec Savage and 362 Johnny James coming through to take their places on the back of the grid. Defending champion Boxer Jack drew his grid number first and after pole last year it was position 5 this year, and with Hughes in position 3 he knew he had serious competition with him straight away!

Boxer settled into the lead but was soon coming under attack from the likes of Rob Bugler and Chris Hide, and eventually he succumbed to their attacks and went out of the running. Hughes had been right with Boxer all the way through the early laps and took up the running and although Shayn Winsor, Jack Foster Jnr and Mark Welland all looked threatening Hughes drove a blinder to take the win, followed home by Foster, Welland and Winsor in that order - a triumph for anyone saying it's a young man's sport as 3 of the top 4 were over 35!

The Allcomers races went to Lenny Smith and Lee's brother Dale Hughes, with Sean Harvey taking the Destruction Derby.

All at Spedeworth offer Lee Hughes congratulations on his first Spedeworth World Final win - he has won the PRI version twice but this one had eluded him until Saturday!!
