This coming Sunday sees the Banger World Series return for its 3rd year, and as ever we kick off with Round 1 at the iconic Plough Lane venue of Wimbledon Stadium. Anyone present at last year’s meeting will most probably have fond memories of what was a fantastic night of Unlimited National Banger action over the course of the evening and we have high hopes for another memorable night this coming Sunday.
At last year’s event as you may remember we had an extra event for your entertainment, where 5 National Banger World Champions, past and present took to the track in a special event, taking it in turn to drive a BMW 318 around the track as quickly as possible, to determine who is the fastest champion! Well we are delighted to confirm that the time trial will be returning this coming Sunday in our Hot Lap Champions Challenge, time trial event. Last year it was Roger Wilkinson who showed the current racers how it was done by setting the lap fastest lap from the 5 drivers. The 1987 World Champ beating the likes of modern day stars such as Steve Carter, Steve Bailey and Lee Hughes. Spedeworth are pleased to say Roger will be back to defend his honour and will be one of 5 drivers aiming to set the track alight and set the fastest lap time, and earn themselves a cool £100 in the process!
Completing the lineup of drivers will be the current holder of the Unlimited National Banger World Championship, 427 Dean McPhilimey who took a fantastic win at Ipswich in October last year. Then we have the current 2 Litre World Final winner, Jack Foster more commonly known as Chubby, followed by the 2013/2014 Wimbledon Banger track champion – Mark Pope. Mark better known for his outings in the domestic Banger class rather than the big league of National Bangers. Last but not least will be the winner of the 2014 Spedeworth National Bangers National Points, “Chiefy”, Kyle Overy.
The racing starts at 5:30pm this coming Sunday at Wimbledon stadium with a fantastic night of Unlimited National Bangers featuring many of the sport’s top names and teams. We also have action from the fantastic 1300 Stock Cars as their 2015 Spedeworth Motorsport Series gets underway.
DO NOT MISS IT!
