On Sunday 8th February 2015 the Banger World Series thundered back into life at Wimbledon Stadium to kick off the 2015 events.
Over 70 Unlimited National Bangers were in attendance with almost 50 cars making the grid for the Wild Card Final Race. The race was a healthy combination of wrecking and racing bringing back the memories of when the Unlimited National Banger World Final was held at the Plough Lane venue. At the end of the race it was #331 Jason ‘Boxer’ Jackson who took Mr Starters double chequered flags to secure his place on the Unlimited World Final grid at Foxhall Heath Stadium, Ipswich on Saturday 10th October 2015 – 5pm start time.
The Unlimited National Bangers were not the only talking point of the night!
In support of the Unlimited National Bangers were the 1300cc Stock Cars and the Champions Hot Laps Challenge.
Starting with the Champions Hot Laps Challenge a big congratulations has to go out the Roger ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson on retaining the challenge title by beating Mark Pope, Kyle Overy, Dean McPhilimey and Jack Foster. Roger was the winner until a surprise 6th competitor entered the arena in the form of our own Spedeworth / Incarace Promoter Deane Wood determined to beat Roger and claim the prize. Roger’s quickest lap time was 21.778 seconds and that time was quick enough to secure Roger the title with Deane losing out to Rogers’ time by 0.079 seconds by recording a lap time of 21.857 seconds!
Completing the night were the 1300cc Stock Cars who stormed onto the track and showed how good stock car racing can be with bumpers going in at both ends of the raceway and some much overtaking that if you had blinked you would have missed a manoeuvre. At the end of the action packed races it was #129 Will Morphey who took the heat and final double with #167 Jimmy Morris taking the second heat.
The next Banger World Series round rolls into Northampton International Raceway with the Unlimited National Bangers on Monday 6th April @ 1.30pm.
See you there!
