On Sunday 26th March 2017, it will seem ironic that on Mother’s Day we will bid farewell to one of the ‘mothers’ of our sport when we race at the Plough Lane venue known to all as Wimbledon Stadium one final time.
The history of Wimbledon Stadium can be told through generations of families some of whom were at the first ever Wimbledon Stadium stock car event.
On Sunday 26th March, we will be ‘going out in style’ by turning back the clock to replicate the first ever meeting held at Wimbledon Stadium using the formulas of today. Some of the formulas within the sport have evolved beyond recognition of the early days but all around us there are still signs of the roots of stock car racing.
This event will feature the National Hot Rods for 2016/17 World Qualifying Round 9, 1300cc Stock Cars for Motor Parts Direct Super Series Round 4 and both the new and the old Superstox will be in attendance. The Superstox will be racing in round 3 of the Safari Land Rover Engineering Challenge Series and the Old Skool Superstox will be on display and will take part in a demonstration race during the night.
Spedeworth Motorsports and Wimbledon Stadium have been together since the beginning and we plan to do the mother venue to our sport proud one final time before we say good bye.
Who will take the last ever chequered flag?
Who will go down in history?
Many questions to be answered but we can guarantee that it will be a night to remember with stories to be told to the future generations of our sport.
As the saying goes ‘gone but not forgotten’!
Racing starts at 5.30pm and we look forward to seeing everyone there!
