Luke Morphey continued his fine form of late with victory in the first 1300 Stock Car heat with most drivers displaying remarkable pace & handling despite the often monsoon-like conditions writes Kevin Wegg. Sam Rigby took the second but was initially penalised for overtaking on the rolling lap only to be re-instated. Morphey hit the turn four wall in the final with Chris Woods rattling the same spot square on very hard indeed as Barry Radcliffe snatched it with just over a lap to go from the plucky Karl Douglas.
Good old-fashioned thrills ‘n’ spills were to the fore in the Historic Stock Cars particularly in race two! Derek Tribe’s opening heat win was to prove a complete contrast as he clashed with Dave Taylor, both ending up in a heap just yards from the flag and very reminiscent of classic 80’s Saloon racing! The one-two-three was established very early in the final, although a late burst in the little Ford Anglia of Jason Blossom so very nearly reeled Steve Stallwood in.
An excellent entry of over 60 Bangers for the opening round of the Peter Brown Developments sponsored Track Championship netted comfortable wins for Darren Terry and Kieran Murphy. Action had come thick and fast in both heats which continued in the all-in race as Andy Hurren ended up on his roof. Michael Allard’s monumental last bender on Kevin Taylor thoroughly deserved a win yet he was denied by a lap sheet check which revealed that Quinsee was the winner. Allard had the last laugh though by taking the double-points final.
